I have this simmering in the crock pot and thought I should post the recipe. Even my pea-hating husband likes this soup. I know it sounds gross... and even looks a little gross (I should post a picture), but it's delicious and filling and healthy!

Mum's Split Pea Soup

  • 3 ½ c. dried split peas, rinsed
  • 3 ribs celery, chopped
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 6 cups water (can use chicken broth for part of it)
  • 1 tsp poultry seasons (I just read the recipe and realized I used a chicken bullion cube. Is that different? Oh well, it's good)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Ham hock (remove ham from it before serving) or add cubed ham the last hour of cooking (I always make this when I have leftovers from a spiral cut ham. Yum!)

Add all to crock pot. Cook on High for 8 to 9 hours or on Low for 10-11 hours.

Add milk to desired thickness.
